Manzanita

we spent the weekend in manzanita, which is a tiny beach town south of cannon beach. it was so darling and i wish to heavens we could have stayed longer. my parents are going to be there all week so we met up for two too short days. the weather did not cooperate one bit and it was cold and misty most of the time. we tried to pretend we were getting facials or spa treatments which worked somewhat.

yesterday morning we woke early and walked the beach. it was almost completely empty, just a few families here and there with their dogs running in and out of the waves. a horse and rider galloped in the distance. we had a few moments of non-mist. the shoreline was dotted with bits of crab and jellyfish and sand dollars. a ridgeline covered with firs appeared out of the fog. it felt like we were walking in a dream. i could see why artists like to capture this coastline in watercolor. i'm hoping my parents will have more 'clouds with a chance of sun' than 'clouds with a chance of a shower' this week.

Waves Painting

just finished this painting...as i was working on it, i realized how much i enjoy doing projects like this. i'm sure i'll add to it and tweak it here and there in the coming weeks, but for now i like it. ocean waves are becoming a theme in our house. :)

Welcome, Summer!

I've been thinking about this blog lately, mostly because it has been an entire month since I've posted and I've been periodically ridden with guilt. So much to say! So much to show! But alas, no time. We did go to the Columbia Gorge for Memorial Day and I discovered that I had forgotten the card for my camera. My husband took wonderful pictures and someday I will show them to you. In the meantime, believe me that it was lush and gorgeous and wonderful. We want to go back to Hood River sometime this summer, maybe at the end of July. What a great little town to visit! We walked along the river there and ate a giant chocolate chip cookie and drank coffees. It was lovely.

A couple of weeks ago we went to Seattle for my birthday. That bit of blue sky you see above the Space Needle was about all we saw until our last day there. It was very Seattley and rained most of the time. We went to the King Tut exhibit and basically just walked everywhere we could. It was very hard to classify Seattle. I felt parts of it reminded me so strongly of San Francisco but then it was all wrong and it wasn't the Bay after all. It was its own place. Need to go back there sometime too...

Work is nuts which is mostly why I haven't posted in ages. Ever grateful for a job and ever grateful that we hired two more admins to share the load, but goodness, it has been tiring. We are on a very fast-paced schedule for our client so that means lots of overtime (and me having dreams about spreadsheets.) In the meantime, summer started just as everyone told us it would, on the 4th of July. It suddenly was in the 70s. And then, in the ::gulp:: 80s! Right now there is a slight breeze outside and if I had a grassy backyard with a hammock, I would go sit in it right now and read. But alas, I have chores to do. Have a beautiful weekend...
